Disappearing Act & Desculpa pelo sumisso!

Let me start by saying this is a daddy post... I know we are not posting lately, but things a quite hectic... we will get in more details in the next few weeks -- nothing to do with Antonio. In any case, I wanted to post the latest pictures we took. Like the one of his first chicken leg.... xoxo

Deixa eu começar dizendo que esse é um post do papai... Eu sei que estamos em dívida e não temos postado ultimamente, mas as coisas estão super enroladas... eu darei mas detalhes nas p'roximas semanas, mas nào tem nada haver com nosso pequeno Antônio. De qualquer forma queria mandar notícias e colocar algumas fotos novas. Como a da primeira coxinha de galinha que ele comeu... Abraços!

Being Silly & Fazendo Palhaçada

The other day, before we put it away, Antônio got into the clean laundry and decided to were my (Marcelo) underwear... just to be funny. He also decided to help Sandra vacuum the floors.

No outro dia, antes que nós pudessemos guaradá-las, o Antônio resolveu brincar com as roupas que tinham acabado de sair da máquina; mais ainda, ele resolveu vestir umas das minhas cuecas, apenas de palhaçada... ah, ele também resolveu ajudar a Sandra a aspirar o chão da casa.

Tudo depende da Higiene... It's all about Hygiene

Todo dia ele faz tudo sempre igual: Me acorda às 6:00 da manhã, me sorri um sorriso pontual, e dá um beijo com um gosto de ... leite azedo! Só depois que ele troca de roupa e toma seu café da manhã, o Antônio faz questão de escovar seus dentinhos (todos os seis)... por conta própria!

Every morning he does the same thing: he wakes me up around 6:00 am, smiles at me, and gives me a kiss smelling like sour milk.., only after he changes and eats his breakfast Antônio make sure that he brushes his teeth, all six of them... on his own!

E deopis, à noite ele não se contenta em ir pra cama sem tomar um banho de banheira... esse é o momento mais feliz do Antônio: quando eu o carrgo até o banheiro, e começo a encher a banheirina dele -- de água e de brinquedo! O moleque realmente adora tomar banho, ele fica maluquinho: tentar encalar a banheira pra entrar logo no banho... o tempo todo rindo e cantando!

At night, before going to bed, Antônio loves to take a bath... i think this is his favorite moment, when I carry him to the bathroom and start filling his bathtub with water and toys! He really loves to take baths, he goes crazy: he tries to climb up the tub's wall to get in his tub, screaming and singing the entire time!

The Most Sacred Thing for a Man & A Coisa mais Sacrada para um Homem

Like Cartman, my favorite South Park's character, would insist to Chef, Antônio also believes ham is very important to a man... is his case, tough, it's not any type of ham: it has to be first grade, imported prosciutto!!! See in the video below... Como o Cartman, meu personagem favorito no seriado South Park, insistiu ao Chefe , o Antônio tambám acredita que presunto é muito importante para os homens... no caso dele, no entanto, nào é qualquer tipo de presunto: tem que ser presunto crú de primeira, importado!!! veja no video abaixo... as legendas só vão até a metade, pois o resto é fácil de entender.

Walks with Daddy & Passeios com o Papai

Ah, o que eu sinto mais saudades desde que o inverno chegou, é ir passear com o papai pelo bairro que moramos... ante do frio chegar, íamos várias vezes por dia levar a Sassy e a Phoebe na rua, e pegar um pouco de sol e de ar puro.

Então nem preciso dizer o quão feliz eu fiquei quando os dias ficaram um pouco mais quentes (15 graus C) desde a sexta-feira, por que o finalmente eu pude ir passear com o papai...



Oh I miss the warm weather, because since the cold arrived I was not able to go out and take my walks with Daddy, Sassy and Phoebe like we used to... we used to go a few times a day, an enjoy a little sun and fresh air.

So I don't need to tell you how happy I was when it got a little warmer this weekend (mid-60s) and I was finally able to help daddy and take the dogs for a walk!



Even better because we went out very fashionistically!

Antes & Depois & Before & After

Nosso pequeno Antônio em maio passado, alguns dias depois de ser ter alta e vir para casa - peso 3.685 gramas.

Our little Antônio last may, a few days after being discharged from the NICU and coming home -- weight 8 lbs. 2 Oz.

Nosso "não-tão-pequeno-assim" Antônio nas sexta-feira passada, experimentando o seu antigo bebê conforto, o mesmo das fotos acima -- peso 9.215 gramas.

Our "not-so-little-anymore" Antônio last friday, trying to sit on his old bounce-seat, the same featured on the pictures above -- weight 20 lb 5 OZ.

cai, cai, balão... baloons & more

O Antônio adora balões e, quando o levei ao supermercado ontem à tarde pra comprar suprimentos antes da nevasca que estava pra cair, ele ficou namorando os balões que estavam pra vender à porta da loja... claro que o papai babão não pôde resistir e compru um. Esse vídeo é interessante, não só por causa do balão, mas principalmente pelos momento finais, nos quais o Antônio atende meus chamados ("Antônio" e "Vem aqui filho") e parece responder com "Ah tá" quando eu digo "papai te ama, tá?".

Antônio loves balloons and, when I took him grocery shopping before the last snow storm, he just could not take his eyes from the ones for sale at the local Giant... of course daddy could not resist buying one for him. This video is quite interesting, although long, because at the end he clearly answers to my calls (come here my son -- in portuguese) and kind of answers OK! when I say "daddy loves you, ok?" (again in Portuguese).

Keeping up with his latest developments, we had a visit with Dr. Blake last Wednesday... For those who do not remember him, Dr. Blake is part of the staff of the NICU and has been taking care of Antônio since the beginning of his journey. Needless to say that Dr. Blake was amazed with how "the famous Antônio" is doing!

Our main concern was regarding feeding because, up until that day, Antônio did not want to eat anything that wasn't pureed without lumps... any time he would get a piece of anything (including cookie, fruits, cereal, etc...) in his mouth, he make himself gag and spit up all his meal... Dr. Blake said that we should keep offering the food, and that he eventually would take it, and there was no reason to worry yet because he does not have an oral aversion (which is obvious in the apple video from a previous post).

Well, we tried a different thing this week: we offered him some puffy veggie sticks, which he not only put right to his mouth but he chewed and swallowed without any problems.



Continuando com os últimos desenvolvimentos do nosso pequeno Antônio, fizemos uma visita ao Dr. Blake, o especialista na área do desenvolvimento infantil... pra quem não se lembra, o Dr. Blake faz parte do time da UTIN e tem acompanhado o Antônio desde o início da sua jornada. Nem preciso dizer que o Dr. Blake ficou boquiaberto com o progresso que o "famoso Antônio" tem apresentado.

Nossa maior preocupaçào era a respeito à alimentação pois, até aquele dia ele não queria comer nada que não fosse passado no liquidificador, em puré e sem "carosso"... sempre que ele colocava qualquer pedacinho de comida (podia ser biscoito, fruta, cereal, bolo...) na boca, por menor que fosse, ele forçava o engasgo e golfava toda a comida.

O Dr. Blake disse pra não nos preocuparmos com isso, e continuar tentando que eventualmente ele iria comer, uma vez que ele não tinha aversão oral (o que é óbvio no video da maçã que postamos há uns dias).

Bem, nós tentamos algo diferente assim que voltamos do médico: nós demos um salgadinho (tipo cheetos ou fandango) de vegetais, os quais ele não só botou na boca imediatamente, mas também mastigou e engoliu sem nenhum problema...

Papai Voltou & Daddy is Home

Eu pedi pra ele me trazer um relógio suiço e chocolate, mas ele não trouxe... de qualquer forma é muito bom ter meu papai em casa de novo! Eu tava morrendo de saudades...

I asked him to bring me a swiss watch and some chocolate, but he didn't... but in any case it is good to have him back home again! I missed him a lot...

3 milestones in 2 weeks

Well it looks like Antonio has hit 3 milestones all within the past 2 weeks.

For starters they say an apple a day keeps the doctor away...well not in this case because Antonio has gotten his first ear infection. You would really never know it though he is just as happy as always. We noticed that he had a cold and wanted to have him checked out just to be sure and he has ear infections in both ears.
The second milestone he reached is the 20 lb point so now he can ride in the car with his car seat facing front which makes him verrrrry happy. He talks during the entire car ride, probably telling us all of the things he sees, we just don't understand yet what he is saying.

The third milestone is that his top front teeth are now coming in. He cut one of the top teeth, not the very front one but the one to the side of it a few weeks ago and just today at the doctor we discovered that the other three are all now visible. We are very excited for these teeth to come in and have been waiting for weeks.
Antonio's daddy returns tomorrow and he will be very happy to see him. Take care everyone.

I am away again until Tuesday... this week was almost 7 days without Antônio and Sandra -- I need my fix!

O Antonio se amarra em jogar bola... então, enquanto dias mais quentes não chegam, nós tiramos a mesinha de centro pra dar mais espaço pra desenvolver os dotes de craque...

Antônio likes to play soccer so, while warm days don't come, we decided to move the coffee table and give him more space to develop his skills...

Comer, Comer.. To Feed a Baby

No últimos dias, quando eu (Marcelo) tento dar de comer ao Antônio, ele só quer saber de segurar a colher e tentar colocar na boca dele... então, ontem, eu resolvi deixá-lo comer por conta própria... eu filmei o experimento, olhe o resultado abaixo...

The last few days, when I (Marcelo) try to feed Antônio, the only thing he does is to grab the spoon out of my hands and try to feed himself... so, yesterday, I let him to eat his lunch by himself -- I recorded the experiment, see the results below...

Meu Priminho tá Aqui... My Little Cousin is Here!

Oi Gente, tudo bem? Meu primo Leonardo está visitando a gente essa semana. Ele veio com a Stephanie (namorada) e eles são muito legais... o Leo brinca comigo o tempo todo, e é muito engraçado!

Hello everybody! My little cousin Leonardo is here spending some time with us. He came with his girlfriend Stephanie and they are quite nice! Leo plays with me all the time, and he is very funny...



O Leo trouxe uma porção de presente, inclusive esses óculos que eu não sei bem com usa... Leo brought me so many presents, including these glasses that I am not sure how to use.



Ele também troxe esse chocalo do Piu-Piu, que eu adoro, pois faz um barulhigo super engraçado, além de ser bom pra coçar minhas gengivas... He also gave me this Tweety rattle, which I loved because it makes a funny noise and it's quite useful to help me appease my gums because of the teething.



Na segunda-feira o papai tirou uma folguinha na parte da tarde e nos levou pra passear no Aquario de Baltimore. Foi a primeira vez que eu participei em um programa desse tipo, e eu adorei... principalmente os peixes! On Monday, daddy took a break from work in the afternoon and took us to the Baltimore Aquarium. This was the first time that I toured any of the amazing Baltimorean landmarks, and I liked it very much, especially the fish!



Só espero que meus dentinhos nào acabem asim... I only hope my teeth don't end up like this!



Minha mãe é uma gata... Isn't my mommy cute?

No Aquário tem um pavilhão da Amazônia e um outro da Austrália que são muito legais... esse daí de cima é da Austrália e tem uma cachoeira imensa, com um lago com os peixes e tartarugas (veja abaixo) da região... At the Aquarium, they have pavilions for the Amazon and for Australia, which are quite great... The one above is the Australian one, where there is a waterfall and a lake where the fish and turtles (see below) swim and play.

Olha o peixe da amazônia aí gente... Look at the amazon fish!
